Just in time for Memorial Day comes an uplifting collection from Reader’s Digest,
Stories In Uniform


Featuring pieces from World War I up to the War on Terror, the stories in this collection were inspiring and memorable. There were stories that brought me to tears, stories that made my heart swell with pride that our country could produce such people, and stories that left me in awe at the heroism of the men and women who served in our United States military over the years.

It was truly an unforgettable collection, and I highly recommend it to my readers. Whether you are currently serving, a veteran, or a military family member or supporter of our troops? I think this book has something that will interest everyone.

my dear faithful readers..my apologies for the long stretches without posting on the blog lately, I'm continuing to recover well from my recent surgery, but don't always find it comfortable to sit for long stretches at the computer (plus I've been having some computer 'issues' off and on,sigh)...at any rate, just before my surgery got moved up two weeks earlier than originally scheduled, I had bookmarked a few things to pass along in a 'Surfing' post, and I'm just now getting to finally passing them on to you. After delivering U.S. Soldiers and Iraq dignitaries to their final destinations, Crew Chief Sgt. Fred Oser, A. Company 2-25, Combat Aviation Brigade, attached to 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, dismounts the 240 Bravo Machine Guns from the UH-60 Black Hawk used during the morning’s mission to several Combined Security Checkpoints in the Ninewa province, Iraq, July 2.

Armed Forces Day 2010

Today is Armed Forces Day a day to "thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country"

Here is the Presidential Proclamation for Armed Forces Day 2010

There are presently a little over 1,000 servicemembers on the Soldiers Angels website awaiting 'adoption'.........one way you might want to consider celebrating Armed Forces Day would be to adopt one of them:)

'Adoption' is a commitment to send at least a letter each week and a care package each month throughout a servicemember's deployment.

As you can see from this United States Postal Service News Release
Holiday Mailing Deadlines are fast approaching.

(short version: It looks like the latest date for Priority Mail cards and packages to go out to most APO/FPO AE AA addresses is Dec. 11--
the exception being APO/FPO AE ZIP 093, which is Dec.4 )

So, it's time to pass on once more some various Holiday Projects to Support the Troops...time is getting short!

Wednesday Hero

This Weeks Hero Was Suggested By Cindy


Petty Officer 2nd Class Chris Davila
From Sierra Vista, Arizona


On the sixth anniversary of the terrorist attack on the United States, Petty Officer 2nd Class Chris Davila raised an American flag over Camp Korean Village, Iraq, he brought with him from Arizona.

Tuesday, May 6, 2008, Sierra Vista firefighter and emergency medical technician Chris Davila presented that flag to Fire Chief Randy Redmond as fellow firefighters looked on. Monday, May 5, 2008, was Davila’s first day back on the job with the department after being gone for nearly nine months, with seven of those months deployed as a Navy Reserve corpsman serving with a Marine unit near the Jordanian and Syrian border area in Iraq.

And, as luck would have it, on his first shift saw him responding to a blaze in Sierra Vista. "Right back to work," he said with a laugh.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived
