"Analyzing" my blog,lol

Found this over at View From the 8th Floor and thought it would be cool to try.

Typealyzer

My results:

ESTP-The Doers

The active and play-ful type. They are especially attuned to people and things around them and often full of energy, talking, joking and engaging in physical out-door activities.

The Doers are happiest with action-filled work which craves their full attention and focus. They might be very impulsive and more keen on starting something new than following it through. They might have a problem with sitting still or remaining inactive for any period of time.

--------------
considering how much time I spend sitting here at the computer?lol, I'm not so sure that last line really fits!

I got different results on my family blog

Try it, it was fun:)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Wishing everyone a

and remembering all those who are serving far from home!
You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I was sent this and wanted to share it with you:

A Thanksgiving Prayer

"O God, when I have food,
help me to remember the hungry;

When I have work,
help me to remember the jobless;

When I have a home,
help me to remember those who have no home at all;

When I am without pain,
help me to remember those who suffer,

And remembering,
help me to destroy my complacency;

Bestir my compassion,

and be concerned enough to help;

By word and deed,

those who cry out for what we take for granted.

Amen."

Nov.27th is the Last Day of the Valour-IT Fundraising Competition

Well, Thanksgiving day is the last day for the fundraiser for

Valour-IT

BostonMaggie has a link posted to a snippet of Greta's interview with Maj. Chuck Ziegenfuss

HERE about the impact Valour-IT had on his life.

The Valour-IT items for auction on eBay are Here

And you can donate HERE

Every cent raised for Project Valour-IT goes directly to the purchase and shipment of laptops and other technology for severely wounded service members. As of November 2008, Valour-IT has distributed over 2700 laptops to severely wounded Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines across the country, and is now expanding its mission to include other technology
(listed below)
that supports physical and psychological recovery.

Voice-controlled Laptops - Operated by speaking into a microphone or using other adaptive technologies, they allow the wounded to maintain connections with the rest of the world during recovery.

Wii Video Game Systems - Whole-body game systems increase motivation and speed recovery when used under the guidance of physical therapists in therapy sessions.

Personal GPS - Handheld GPS devices build self-confidence and independence by compensating for short-term memory loss and organizational challenges related to TBI and severe PTSD.

Fallen Marine LCPL Daniel T. Morris Bridge Dedication

My Thanks to SWAC Girl for posting about the

Bridge Dedication to LCPL. Daniel Morris

on February 22,2007, my husband and I had the honor and privilege of standing with the Patriot Guard Riders at LCPL Morris' funeral, and I have never forgotten that.

It was the first PGR mission at a funeral we were able to attend, and I wrote about it on my original Mail Call! blog PGR Mission for LCPL Daniel T. Morris~Mission Complete

Our local news had the story about the bridge dedication Here

To the family of LCPL Daniel Morris....there are many people you have never met, who have not forgotten your son.

And we continue to hold you in our prayers.

Soldiers Angels Web Surfing

Photobucket

Welcome to my weekly surf of the web for news by, and about
Soldiers Angels

I've changed my 'web surf' pic this week to remind you that fundraising is still going on for the Soldiers Angels Project Valour-IT

There are many, many bloggers joining in spreading the word, and they've each joined a different 'Team' representing the branches of the Armed Forces, so I thought I'd highlight a post from a blogger from each of the Teams.

Soldiers Angels New York has a post up for the Air Force Team here

Miss Ladybug posts for Team Army here

Boston Maggie takes a swipe at the Air Force team on behalf of Team Navy here (and she's scary-good at tricking people into joining the Navy Team,lol...she almost got me signed up on Facebook, until I realized 'wait, you don't spell Army N-A-V-Y!':)

CG Blog (An UNofficial Coast Guard Blog) tells us the Coasties are lagging behind, but still hanging in there......here

And Soldiers Angels Germany comes in with a blog post for the Marines that had me cracking up here

The competition is all in good fun, and the money all goes to the same place in the end.(although my heart lies with 'Go,Team Army'! just in case you haven't picked a Team to donate through yet...I'm just sayin:)

In other places to visit on this web surf...........

Soldiers Angels Network has a post up about another very worthy cause to support.....Operation Survivor from Survivor Corps

An Awesome Stamper and New Adopter of a Soldier has a great post here

This Angel has a wonderful story about
The Best Veteran's Day Ever

Soldiers Angels Louisiana has some great links to check out in

And I close with this post from Ladies of Liberty
Happy Thanksgiving from Soldiers Angels

That's the surf!

This...is Wrong "Virginia denies Marine recognition because of how he died "

The story is from the Virginian-Pilot Here

Please take the time to read it, because this is a travesty, in my opinion, and I'm ashamed today to be a Virginian.

While researching more about this story, I came across an excellent posting by a USMC Veteran/fellow Virginian, that says more eloquently than I could that this policy needs to be changed

From Too Close to the Mason-Dixon We Can Do Better Than This

She includes in her post links to the Governor's website, and the websites for the Delegates to the Virginia General Assembly, and the Virginia State Senators,

and has found many of the pertinent email addresses for the
Virginia War Memorial Foundation members(and a listing of those members)

(a most Excellent job of research on her part, my Thanks to her)

She also includes the letter that she sent to as many of those people as she could.

While my own effort couldn't compare to her letter? I followed her lead, and emailed the Governor's office, and my State Delegates and Senators, and many of those on the Virginia War Memorial Foundation Board,

and if you are a Virginian?

I strongly Urge you to do the same.

This is a policy that needs to be changed. We need to honor our Fallen who died during active service in a war zone.

While doing my own research on this, I came across This Link on the Virginia General Assembly Website,
which says the Purpose of the War Memorial Foundation Board of Trustee's is:

"To honor patriotic Virginians who rendered faithful service and sacrifice in the cause of freedom and liberty for the Commonwealth and the nation in time of war. "

and on the Virginia War Memorial website itself, it say ......"the War Memorial was created by the Virginia General Assembly to honor Virginia's war dead."

(I guess I'm just missing somewhere the codicil that states "only if they died in hostile combat"??)

A great many of the folks who serve on the Board of Trustee's are veterans themselves......I should think they would be ashamed of themselves, for allowing this to happen.

Fellow Virginians......let's join together and make our voices heard....this policy needs to be changed.

Borrowing from Too Close's posting,

The Governor's Website

House of Delegates Email Listings

Senate of Virginia Membership Listings

Let's do this not only for LCPL Darrell Schumann, but also for the roughly two dozen others with Virginia ties who died in accidents or non-combat scenarios, out of the about 140 Virginia servicemembers who have died since 2003 in the wars.

As LCPL Schumann's father, Rick, said in the Virginian-Pilot article
"We want them to do it right this time."

Wednesday Hero

Gen. Ann E. Dunwoody
Gen. Ann E. Dunwoody
55 years old from Fort Belvoir, Virginia
U.S. Army

Call it breaking the brass ceiling. Ann E. Dunwoody, after 33 years in the Army, ascended Friday to a peak never before reached by a woman in the U.S. military: four-star general.

At an emotional promotion ceremony, Dunwoody looked back on her years in uniform, said it was a credit to the Army—and a great surprise to her—that she would make history in a male-dominated military.

"Thirty-three years after I took the oath as a second lieutenant, I have to tell you this is not exactly how I envisioned my life unfolding," she told a standing-room-only auditorium. "Even as a young kid, all I ever wanted to do was teach physical education and raise a family.

"It was clear to me that my Army experience was just going to be a two-year detour en route to my fitness profession," she added. "So when asked, `Ann, did you ever think you were going to be a general officer, to say nothing about a four-star?' I say, `Not in my wildest dreams.'

"There is no one more surprised than I—except, of course, my husband. You know what they say, `Behind every successful woman there is an astonished man.'"

You can read the rest of Gen. Dunwoody's story here.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

The Valour-IT Teams

There's probably some 'ultra-techy' way for me to do this that I'm just not understanding, lol,
(even though I checked out the Valour-IT Blog )

On the Valour-IT fundraiser page
you can see the 'Team' totals, and down underneath that, you can catch the latest blog posts about Valour-IT
(and remember, the Teams are all in the spirit of fun, all monies raised go to the same place in the end)

I just wanted to link to the sign up pages for each team, because under the sign up it lists all the blogs currently participating for that Team. It's a great way for you to 'surf' some great blogs.

Since my blog is,( of course,) signed up for the Army Team, I'm going to start out linking to that one.

Army Team

Marines Team

Navy Team

Air Force Team

Coast Guard Team

So go check out the blogs on each Team, and while you're there? why not consider Joining one of the Teams?(subliminal insert:Army) and help spread the word about this fundraiser!

More Valour-IT news....Valour-IT Featured on Moment of Thanks

Valour-IT Featured on Moment of Thanks

Project Valour-IT is currently featured on Moment of Thanks (MoT) in conjunction with Valour-IT's online fundraiser, which runs through Thanksgiving Day. A supporter of Soldiers' Angels since the site began, MoT is now featuring videos from the recent Soldiers' Angels Gala on its front page, and has set aside space specifically to highlight Valour-IT's history and impact.

Since its kickoff last July 4th, MoT has gathered videos, photos, and texts of gratitude for the troops from thousands of everyday people, as well as famous names in sports, politics, entertainment and military service. This month, in honor of Veterans Day, MoT is inviting visitors to share stories of a personal hero who is also a veteran.

If you're a servicemember or part of a military family, Moment of Thanks is a great reminder of how many people appreciate the service of you and your family. If you're a civilian, it's a testament to the service so many have given us, and the "silent majority" who continue to love and care for our military even when they are no longer on the front pages.

Check it out! And don't forget the special Valour-IT page, too!

Project Valour-IT, in memory of SFC William V. Ziegenfuss, helps
provide voice-controlled/adaptive laptop computers and other
technology to support Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines
recovering from hand wounds and other severe injuries. Technology
supplied includes:
Voice-controlled Laptops - Operated by speaking into a microphone or
using other adaptive technologies, they allow the wounded to maintain
connections with the rest of the world during recovery.

Wii Video Game Systems - Whole-body game systems increase motivation
and speed recovery when used under the guidance of physical
therapists in therapy sessions.

Personal GPS - Handheld GPS devices build self-confidence and
independence by compensating for short-term memory loss and
organizational challenges related to TBI and severe PTSD.

The experience of Major Chuck Ziegenfuss, a partner in the project
who suffered serious hand wounds while serving in Iraq, illustrates
how important these laptops and other technologies can be to a
wounded service member's recovery.

Holiday Mail for Heroes

My alert Mother forwarded an email sent to her and many others tonight, with an address to send cards to "A Recovering American Soldier" care of Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Folks, you CANNOT send cards to "A Recovering American Soldier",it says so right here on this page from Walter Reed's website:

(bottom of the page- "Walter Reed is not accepting mail addressed to "A Recovering American Soldier." )

HOWEVER, as you can see on the page I Linked

You CAN send cards through the Holiday Mail for Heroes program, run by the
American Red Cross partnering with Pitney Bowes

Check out any of the links above, and also Snopes.com

They all say the same thing

Holiday cards should be mailed to:

Holiday Mail for Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD. 20791-5456

All cards must be postmarked no later than Dec. 10.
Cards should not be mailed or delivered to Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

The guidelines for sending cards are:

Card Guidelines
Please follow these guidelines when mailing a card to ensure that your card will quickly reach service members, veterans and their families. Every card received will first be screened for hazardous materials by Pitney Bowes and then reviewed by Red Cross volunteers working in one of 16 sorting stations around the country.

All cards must be postmarked no later than Wednesday, December 10, 2008. Cards sent after this date will be returned to sender.

Please ensure that all cards are signed.

Please use generic salutations such as “Dear Service Member.” Cards addressed to specific individuals can not be delivered through this program.

Please send cards as opposed to long letters which delay a quick review process.

Please do not include email or home addresses on the cards, as the program is not meant to foster pen pal relationships.

Please do not include inserts of any kind, including photos, as these items will be removed during the reviewing process.

Participants are encouraged to limit the number of cards they submit to 25 from any one person or 50 from any one class or group.
If you are mailing a larger quantity, please bundle the cards and place them in large mailing envelopes. Each card does not need its own envelope.

All cards received may be used in program publicity efforts, including appearing in broadcast, print or online mediums.
---------------------------------------

I was sad when Mom forwarded me that email, which a very good-hearted and caring person had obviously passed on to many other people.......all that mail they will send to the Walter Reed address will be returned to them, and their good wishes for our Recovering Troops will not be passed on.

So please, if you're going to forward Any email about sending cards to recovering troops this holiday season?
Go to the American Red Cross website HERE

They have a form at the bottom to pass that page on via email. (My suggestion? email it to yourself, and then forward it on to everyone you can think of!)

Let's get the cards to our recovering servicemembers this year(not see those good wishes returned to you)
and Thank You, to the American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes, for working to make this happen.

Holiday Care Packages and Cards for the Troops....Deadlines Approaching!

As you can see from this United States Postal Service News Release
Holiday Mailing Deadlines are fast approaching.

(short version: It looks like the latest date for Priority Mail cards and packages to go out to most APO/FPO AE AA addresses is Dec. 11--
the exception being APO/FPO AE ZIP 093, which is Dec.4 )

So, it's time to pass on once more some various Holiday Projects to Support the Troops...time is getting short!

Soldiers Angels" Wrapped in Holiday Spirit " program is (you knew I was going to:)starting to 'wrap up'...but, there's still time for you to order a Wrapped in Holiday Spirit Care Package for only $18.75,( just click 'Send to Any Hero' when you order.)

This next one's easy...... The Big Thank You all you need to do is post a message!
The goal of The Bert Show's Big Thank You 2008 is to collect 1,051,200 unique messages by Thanksgiving Day. Each message will be posted on this site, and when we reach our goal, we will have enough messages to display a new flashing one on this site every thirty seconds ... for one entire year!

Toys-For-Troops posts about Christmas Care Packages:2008
Their packing party is Dec. 7, and as she says "if you're not from central Illinois, you can still participate in the merrymaking..." (go read to find out How...and then, check out the rest of their blog, and the great job they just did for Thanksgiving and Veteran's day!)

From Some Soldier's Mom comes SEND CHRISTMAS & HOLIDAY CARDS TO SOLDIERS, MARINES, MILITARY
(Go read how to send a card to 'any servicemember' and also the Facebook page they mention in the article seems to be HERE where you can leave a message that will be printed out and sent.)

and Kat at Yikes is collecting cards for Operation Love From Home through Nov.22.

Just wanted to pass on a few of the ways you can brighten the Holidays for someone in the Military!
