This year is also the 150th anniversary of Arlington National Cemetery.

Wreaths Across America hopes this year to place wreaths on all veteran's graves in Arlington, in honor of that anniversary. But they need each of us to help. You can read more about this at

It's time again for a Friday reminder about Wreaths Across America's
"The Christmas They Never Had"
to attempt to cover all 330,000+ graves at Arlington National Cemetery in December 2011.

It's Friday, time for a reminder about 'The Christmas They Never Had'  which is the mission this year of Worcester Wreath Company and Wreaths Across America to lay 330,000+ wreaths to cover all the graves of our country's fallen heroes in Arlington.

Wreaths Across America~Help Sponsor a Wreath for Section 60 at Arlington

For the past several years my husband and I have participated both locally and at Arlington
in Wreaths Across America

On December 11th at noon this year, volunteers all over our country will once again be laying wreaths on the graves of our fallen heroes. (we will be unable this year to participate, we'll be attending my stepson's wedding)

and also check out the tenative schedule for the 2010 Escort to Arlington   The Patriot Guard Riders will be joining in the escort.

But the main reason I'm posting is that on this Update on Section 60  the total number of wreaths sponsored for section 60 is 4800...of the 9,000 needed. Section 60 is the section of Arlington where many of our fallen from Iraq and Afghanistan lie, and this year Wreaths Across America had hoped to have wreaths sponsored for Section 60  WishUponAHero

The cut-off for sponsoring a wreath has been extended to Nov. 29, you can see the sponsorship options here

Above is a picture from Arlington National Cemetery last year, when my husband and I participated in Wreaths Across America there.

In the years prior to that, we've gone to our local National cemetery to participate, you can find a slideshow I did from our participation in 2007 here

This year's Wreath Laying will take place on December 12 at noon across the country, you can find out more (and locations near you) at the main Wreaths Across America website.

Whether you participate at Arlington, or at a local National cemetery near you? We have always found this to be a very moving and meaningful way to honor our fallen veterans.

Arlington Wreath Project 2008-Part One

We got up at 4:30 am to head up to Arlington National Cemetery, for the Arlington part of Wreaths Across America,
and were flabbergasted when we got there that there was so Much traffic that it took us a half hour just to get In to Arlington Cemetery. We had No idea that so Many people would show up.I kept saying over and over "This is just....Amazing."

It was a sunny but Cold day, and the wind was blowing. I haven't seen any numbers of crowd estimates, would be interested to know how many folks were there.

We took a great many pictures, so I've broken the pictures up into two slide shows, the first one is here

and I hope it gives you some idea of both the crowd, and also how the gravesites looked before people started laying their wreaths.

When we laid the wreaths, they asked that you read the name, and years of service and date of death, and also paused a moment to honor the person whose grave you were laying the wreath on.

This was such a moving project to be a part of.
